The Tongue of the Ocean is one of the most notable oceanic features in the Caribbean. Located in the Bahamas, the Tongue of the Ocean is a deepwater trench that drops off drastically from the surrounding underwater bank. The contrast between the cold, dark water in the trench and the warm, clear water over the surrounding bank is striking. It is so dramatic, in fact, that it is visible from space. Many species of sharks visit the reefs along the bank of the trench in search of food.
