NGM.com gets nod for best online magazine and best use of photography.

National Geographic Magazine Online will take home two Webby awards this year, for best online magazine and best use of photography for Your Shot. The 2008 award winners were announced today in New York by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. NGM.com also won the people's choice award in the magazine category. The Webby nods follow awards for best use of multimedia overall from Pictures of the Year International, in March, and second place for multimedia feature story for the video Gorilla Massacre. In February, the Magazine Publishers of America has awarded first, second and third place honors to National Geographic Magazine Online for three features on NGM's recently redesigned Web site. NGM.com won first place for best web-only yool, for its Your Shot Jigsaw Puzzle Generator. The video "Gorilla Massacre" took second place for best standalone video, and Your Shot, featuring a dozen new photos daily from reader submissions, won third place for Best Online Community. Earlier this week, National Geographic magazine took home three National Magazine Awards. NGM was awarded the top honor, general excellence in a publication with over two million circulation—as well as the awards for reporting and photojournalism.
