In 1997 Harvard University anthropologist Cheryl Knott and her husband, Harvard biologist Tim Laman, received the first annual Chairman's Award from the Society's Committee for Research and Exploration. Cheryl Knott wrote about her research trip to Borneo for the August 1998 issue of National Geographic.
