Our lead guide, Choco, had been calling jaguars for several weeks. He used a big tin can with rawhide stretched over it. The sound he made by rubbing his hand over the rawhide was supposed to draw the big cats from great distances. When at last he saw the tracks of a jaguar that had repeatedly approached our base camp, we moved to a small wooden platform on the edge of a clearing and waited. We didn’t have to wait long. A young female jaguar came into the clearing on three consecutive nights, and we got our pictures of this rare cat in the wild. Back To Main Photograph by Joel Sartore
