Rana Tharu: Women of Grace

Proud of her people’s descent from upper-cast Rajputs of Rajasthan, Ram Puti (above)—like most Rana Tharu women—clings to tradition, though her husband and children have adopted Western dress. Her breastplate of Indian rupees was passed down from her mother.
