All in the Family
Photograph by William Albert Allard

Cradled in her great-grandmother’s arms, Eva Scapicchio is the fourth generation of family born and raised in the North End. Family matriarch Rose Faria (seated) purchased this apartment in 1935. Her daughter, Marie Scapicchio (standing), has lived in this building her entire life. Marie’s son, Boston City Councillor Paul Scapicchio, who is Eva’s father, still lives in the neighborhood. “As Italian-Americans, we always choose to spend time with our families,” says Marie. “We’re emotional. We hug a lot, we kiss a lot. We’re watching each other grow older. And that’s what life is all about.”
