Keeper of the Collection Plate
Photograph by William Albert Allard

Faithful guardian, a woman collects offerings given in honor of St. Anthony—known to many in the North End as San Antonia di Padova. Devotion—and a passion for fun—draw tens of thousands of people into neighborhood streets for annual summer festivals honoring a host of saints traditionally revered in Italy. “St. Anthony is my life,” says local resident Natalina Tizzano, originally from Italy. “He’s my son, my father, my brother. I believe in him.”
