Snake Eyes? What Snake Eyes?

When the sun scorches the Namib Desert on the coast of southern Africa, the sidewinding snake Pringueys adder (Bitis peringueyi) wriggles into the sand to keep cool. Its body and head can vanish in seconds, leaving only its eyes above ground.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR COMMENTS:
A tracker had captured the snake for me, and I was doing a series of photographs of its eyes.
We took the snake back to within 100 feet (30 meters) of where it had been captured. It took off, sidewiding
across the dune, found the very spot where it had been captured, and
undulated its way into the sand until only its eyes were visible.
