Hanging Around for Dinner
Photograph by Randy Olson

Stuff of an angler’s dreams, a hefty arctic char awaits the spit at one of three field camps used by scientists exploring the Putorana Plateau. This region’s unspoiled lakes and rivers teem with trophy-size char and grayling, easily scooped with nets. A daily staple, fish is eaten fried, boiled, dried, or raw—washed down with a swig of vodka.
