Sunrise Sail on the Chesapeake
Photograph by Luis Marden

Dawn-etched silhouettes of skipjacks graced the opening pages of “The Sailing Oystermen of Chesapeake Bay” (December 1967), an assignment that put Marden where he loved to be—on a sailboat. Along the way one skipjack captain told Marden: “You go to bed at night wonderin’ where the wind’s gonna be, and you don’t know where you gonna make your day’s work.”
