Once I got behind the facade, I really entered these people’s lives. They talked about how they live and allowed me to experience their lives with them. It was an eye-opener. Nothing bad happened on this assignment. I might have expected something the night I went on patrol with a sergeant from the Beverly Hills Police Department, but even that turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It was completely dead, so the officer took me on a sightseeing tour of celebrity mansions. Women get their money’s worth at the salon of José Eber. His clients search him out for help with their lives and for coming to terms with their problems. In any other part of the country, they would go to their therapists or priests. Actually, a priest would be a lot cheaper than a U.S. $300 haircut with José.
