Flaunting earrings and makeup, two members of the Avalon String Band serenade fellow musicians outside their clubhouse on Second Street, or Two Street as it is known locally, before the January 1, 2000, parade. In the spirit of the “RIO 2000” theme, a contingent of the band marched as Carmen Mirandas, complete with fruit-laden hats.
