A Roman-era sarcophagus from the second century A.D. now serves as a livestock watering trough in the village of Demirci on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. Civilizations from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman Empire have left their cultural detritus strewn over the fertile coastline.
