Life in Transition

Suspended in a watery world, a red-eyed tree frog embryo develops into a tadpole within its gelatinous capsule. Wispy gills branch like antlers, providing oxygen to the blood. Clutches of approximately 40 eggs are laid on leaves overhanging ponds. About six days after the egg mass is laid, the tiny new tadpoles are ready to drop out into the pond below. Three months later theyll emerge as froglets and climb into the trees to begin the cycle againif they survive predation in their youth.
