A visitor to Hailuogou National Glacier and Forest Park in Sichuan Province takes the easy way up to see a glacier by hiring bearers, who charge 50 yuan ($6) a trip. While its edicts work to preserve the Hengduan Mountains ecosystem, the Chinese government is aggressively promoting the country’s budding ecotourism industry, raising fresh concerns about the human impact on the environment.
