Facing Mortality
Photograph by Ira Block

It gave the dead a face: A copper mask with simple features was found on the mummy bundle of a high-ranking adult male. His companion in the grave, an adult female, still had her hair and, said chief archaeologist Guillermo Cock, “a great smile. Was she his wife? His sister? Her presence next to him suggests someone close to him.”
