Innocents in Agony Photograph by Lois Raimondo
An anxious mother comforts her young daughter at Taloqan Public Hospital after the girl was injured at home during a rocket attack gone awry. This regional hospital, which served as receiving point for all frontline wounded and critically injured civilians, was overflowing with patients but operating without electricity, medicine, or bandages. Both Taliban and Northern Alliance soldiers lay wounded side by side while civilians, injured in fighting and maimed by land mines, lay scattered among the combatants. |
