Hallowed Ground

At the dawn of ancient Egypt some 5,000 years ago, the first kings seized control of Nile traffic at a spot where the river narrowed to little more than a mile across. Their settlement became the city of Memphis; their necropolis, centered at Saqqara, served as the national cemetery.
