The Great Outdoors Photograph by Catherine Karnow
Nature is never out of sight (or out of mind) in Hibbing, even when visiting the local barber shop, where wildlife wallpaper stands in for the real thing. “Hunting and fishing. That’s what we do,” says Jerry Starck, owner of Starck’s Barber Shop since 1967. Jerry’s father, 95-year-old Joe Starck, at right, built the shop in 1951 and passed it—and his love of nature—on to his son. Jerry added the wallpaper a few years ago to remind himself of days spent casting lines with his dad. |
