Soft sand barely slows Hare's team of 25 camels as they carry baggage and passengers across roadless terrain. Steep dunes, plains of sharp rocks, days without food, below-freezing temperatures—the camels faced all obstacles to deliver Hare and his fellow travelers safely to the outskirts of Tripoli.
