Photographer Tim Laman holds two seeds of Pelagodoxa henryana, a critically endangered palm tree on Nuku Hiva island in the Marquesas. Because much of the island has been cleared for coconut plantations, native trees like this have been pushed back into remnant populations along the higher reaches. There are only 12 full-grown members of this palm species left in the world—and they're all right here.
