In any other place this lovely island-dotted lake would have a name that reflects its tranquil beauty. But here in Minnesota's Boundary Waters region, blessed with thousands of lakes, the naming process sometimes came down to numbers. When surveyors did their methodical plotting a hundred years ago, this lake in Superior National Forest ended up in a grid called Section 12, and Section Twelve Lake is what it's called to this day.
