Healing Blossoms
Photograph by Jim Brandenburg
Whenever the woods are disturbedby fire, by loggingsun-loving fireweed rises to fill the void and stabilize the soil. It's a lovely opportunist, its fresh color a balm on destruction. Fire is an integral part of the forest ecosystem, and fireweed's wind-dispersed seeds quickly grow in newly burned areasnature's way of giving hope for the future.
