Caught in the Act
Photograph by Cary Wolinsky

At home on the stage, actor Russell Hornsby performs an impromptu monologue from Shakespeare's Othello. His venue: Twin Cottage, site of the historic Shearer Summer Theater. The theater spans two houses, using their connected front porches as the stage. "My family once lived right next door, but I didn't know what it was," says Hornsby. He recently toured the inside, admiring photos of Paul Robeson and other actors who had performed there. "Standing where Robeson stood was moving, like having his spirit within me," he says.
