Keeping a Low Profile
Photograph by Nicolas Reynard
The goal of Sydney Possuelo's expedition was to trek into the jungles of northwestern Brazil, discover exactly where the uncontacted Flecheiros, or Arrow People, lived without ever making contact with them, and then get out without loss of life or limb. Armed with such inside information, Possuelo and his colleagues in the Brazilian government hope to help the region's uncontacted tribes remain that way. "I'm trying to give Indians the opportunity to be who they are, and not make them what we are," says Possuelo.
