Taking flight at dusk, flamingos chase their reflections across a lake in the high Andes. Such pools in the Atacama draw three species of flamingo: Chilean, Andean, and James'. But the birds' habitat is increasingly vulnerable to water pollution linked to mining, tourism, and population growth.
