Lapping It Up
Photograph by Anup and Manoj Shah
Plains zebras quench their huge thirst at a pond fed by an underground spring, a well-used oasis during Masai Mara's dry season. Ever curious, a foalalready sated from sucklingkeeps its head up and eyes open, intent on some movement in the distance. Safety is never assured out here: Crocodiles rule the rivers, and lions, hyenas, and wild dogs lurk on land, waiting to prey on zebra flesh.
