This Old House

"It's been a wonderful place," says 27-year resident Nora Lehnhoff of her nearly century-old home in Portland's Willamette Heights. "I don't know if these old houses help create community, but it's a real neighborhood—everybody's in and out of each other's houses. It's what people wanted years ago, and what they still want."

Lighting Techniques: Available light
Special Equipment: This is a composite of roughly 20 to 30 individual shots. I shot on print film so that I could play with the individual images to piece together the photo after the fact. It was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but the outcome was simply to please myself; there's no right or wrong. Like all photography it's subjective, but this technique freed me to have more fun and stay loose.
