A Last Parking Place

Memories of racer Joey Laquerre, Jr., still run full-throttle in Barre. The young driver's Number 61 was often first across the finish at the town's Thunder Road Speedbowl. After Laquerre was killed in a snowmobile accident in 1991, his family wanted his Hope Cemetery memorial to represent the racing life he loved. Sculptor Andy Hebert crafted the half-size granite version of Laquerre's car. "Joey was a real champion," he says.
