Where's the Mummy?
Photograph by Kenneth Garrett
Cut into a cliff, a new tomb discovered in the ancient Egyptian cemetery of Saqqara presents French archaeologist Alain Zivie with a mystery: the fate of the man who prepared this as his final resting place in about 1340 B.C. Zivie searches the painted reliefs for clues in one of the rooms, where a modern jack shores up the fragile limestone of the ceiling. Deeper in the tomb, at the end of a downward sloping passage, lies the unfinished burial chamber, apparently never used.
