In Ca-Hoots
Photograph by Steve Winter
A pinched pair of Cuban screech-owls peers out from a nest in a rotted palm tree in the Ciénaga de Zapata Biosphere Reserve. This is a rare sight, according to reserve bird expert Angel Martinez. A lifelong resident of the area, Martinez had never seen two Cuban screech-owls occupying a single nest.
