Bright Smiles, Small City
Photograph by Nina Berman

Despite the grisly murders portrayed in the movie Fargo, it was the bizarre characters and their quirky humor that made the film a smash—and the small town of Fargo famous. "People really do have a great sense of humor here," says native Kristen Rudrüd, at left, with her daughter Cora Joe at a local variety store. "It's because of the weather," says Kristen, who played the kidnapped wife in the film. "It's really humbling."
