Making the Rounds

Delivering parts to far-flung workstations, Ann Spurgeon pays a visit to Steve Phillips inside the metal frame of a fuselage-in-progress. Phillips, an assembly mechanic, connects the sections that create a plane's main body cavity. The fuselages are sent by train to Boeing plants in Washington State, where workers add the wings and "stuff" the planes with passenger seats and avionic equipment.
