Trumpeter Buddy Oliphant practices in the rehearsal room at the Alabama School for the Blind. The school's band has been a fixtureplaying for audiences from the Alabama Legislature to New York crowds at Madison Square Gardensince it was formed in 1936. Its first director, Gene Landreth, served for 45 years.
