Maid Service
Photograph by Michael S. Quinton
Master house cleaner, a father flicker ferries off a fecal sac from the tree hollow where his young await their next meal. "Just like in our families, the parents basically just haul food in and diapers out," says photographer Michael Quinton. For the birds, removing the nestlings' feces likely helps prevent parasites from infesting the crowded nests.
