In the shallow green waters of Cape Cod, a host of longfin inshore squid arrive in spring to mate. Many also wind up on local restaurant tables as calamari, while some are used for medical research: This species' nervous system has been studied for 50 years, recently revealing insights into the transmission of the herpes virus.
