Come One, Come All
Photograph by Amy Toensing
In Seaside Heights, New Jersey, barker Jim Foster spiels the praises of the Bros. Grim sideshow, the "World's Greatest Collection of Human Oddities, Strange People, Novel Entertainers." Last summer Bros. Grim ran eight shows a day on the boardwalk (when weather permitted); this year they pitched their tent in Dallas, Texas. "There are other sideshows out there, but I'm the only guy doing one with all the whistles and bells," says ringleader and former rock musician Ken Harck, who debuted the Bros. Grim in 2000. "It's exactly how a sideshow looked in the 1920s or 1930s. Going to my show is like walking into an old photograph."
