Photograph by Michael Nichols
Only days old, a Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) eyes its new world in a Loango creek. Nichols spent three days photographing the hatchlings from a boat. "They were so young," he said, "they hadn't learned fear yet." The mother croc stayed out of sight. "The adults split as soon as they see a human," Nichols said.
