Meet a Red River Hog
Photograph by Michael Nichols
Looking up in surprise at the sight of an alien human, a red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus) spots photographer Nichols, who hid on his stomach in high grass to snap the unsuspecting quarry. Also called bush pigs, red river hogs forage in large herds, often from 20 to 50 animals. "You're looking at a leopard's favorite food," says Nichols.
