Tension mounts for serious bingo players at the local fire hall. "If it wasn't for the Canadians, there wouldn't be any bingo in Point Roberts," says 58-year-old Helen Bristow, above, who's been a bingo regular for more than half her life. (Nearly half of the property in town is owned by Canadians.) Helen drives down to the hall from her home in British Columbia three times a week. On lucky nights she can claim her winnings in Canadian cash.
