Providing a friendly pat and a spare hand, an aide holds a student's oatmeal bowl before the morning bell at Milwaukee's Indian Community School (ICS). With a curriculum that includes Indian languages, history, and rituals, ICS nourishes kids' identities as well as their minds. Beyond the cultural grounding that's served here, tuition is free and kids are fed breakfast and lunch daily.
