After leaving the sweat lodge, participants smoke a pipe—filled with tobacco and good prayers—to close the ceremony. In the ICS cafeteria, Shawnee Ford motions smoke around his head to "cleanse my body and mind" before participating in a potluck meal. "The meal is a time to socialize and share with everybody," says Ford—one of many opportunities to connect with the Indian community the school has fostered.
