The thought of traveling to Lebanon concerned me. But after visiting the harbors at Tyre and Byblos, exploring some of the ruins, and experiencing the natural beauty of the country, my fears subsided. Beirut is an amazing and beautiful city that I'd really like to visit again. Before the civil war, it was called the Paris of the Mediterranean. It's a very complex part of the world and always has been since it lies at the crossroads of different cultures.

The Phoenicians once performed rituals and burials in the same caves in Gibraltar where a lot of Neandertal studies have taken place in modern times. It was amazing to imagine that some 4,000 years ago the Phoenicians were there, in the same caves where Neandertal remains have been found. Now that's old.
