The Berbers are beautiful people who show humility and tolerance for others. As is typical among Muslims, they are very hospitable and took special care of me as a guest. They always made sure I was fine and did their best to make me feel comfortable. I also appreciated their slow-paced lifestyle, which comes from living so close to nature.

The flip side of living so close to nature is that the Berbers have to deal with all its harshness. Crops are slow to grow, and it's very cold and windy in winter. Nature is pretty much all they have. They live in extreme poverty and receive no benefits from being so close to large cities such as Marrakesh and Rabat. It's difficult to build roads in the mountains where they live, and the government sees no advantage in doing so. The Berbers deserve more generosity along those lines, but they haven't made much progress.

Every time the Berbers in this region do something, they do it together. They even get married together; they had 18 weddings on the same day in the same village. They also have mass circumcisions with all the children in one room. Afterward, when a mother carries her crying child away, another member of the family takes a stick and taps the doctor on the head, just to appease the child.
