The alpine lily blooms between July and September, but flowers in Yosemite can bloom as early as April, depending on the elevation. Yosemite's wild diversity of life lured naturalist John Muir to spend years exploring the park, filling him with an awe and gratitude that bordered on the religious. "Keep close to Nature's heart, yourself; and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods," wrote Muir. "Wash your spirit clean."
