Postcard Thumbnail (see caption) Sand Art

Winds that over time strike sand from a consistent direction sculpt a network of barchan dunes that grow, move, and reproduce like living organisms. The large, textured mass in the middle formed the small round dunes in front, each about 30 feet (9 meters) wide.

Postcard Thumbnail (see caption) Resort Remnants

Dying palm trees are all that remain of what was once the posh Salton Bay Yacht Club. Built in 1960, the society hot spot attracted such celebrities as actors Desi Arnaz and Johnny Weissmuller.
