Final Preparations

Burt Rutan holds the October 4 preflight briefing with his team at his company, Scaled Composites. Surrounded by photos of aircraft he designed and built over several decades, and sitting around a conference table made of the same carbon fiber used to build SpaceShipOne, Rutan's team revisits the key points of a more lengthy briefing a day earlier. In moments they'll head outside for takeoff.
