Night Stalker Photograph by Lynn Johnson
To find fish fossils in a 50-million-year-old river bed in Wyoming, fossil dealer Rick Hebdon and a handful of his employees work at night with halogen lights. "The fossils barely stick up from the stone," says Hebdon, "but with spotlights they cast a shadow." He then uses a stone saw and hand tools to extract the fossils and prepare them for sale. "The best part of this job is I get to make a living doing what I really love," says Hebdon. "The worst part is when sales aren't going well and I've got to meet my payroll."
