Lasting Impression

After settling onto Liaoning's famously fine-grained sediments, a conifer sprig left a highly detailed fossil impression. During the early Cretaceous, the Liaoning area was characterized by a warm climate and numerous lakes, providing ideal conditions for a diverse and prolific collection of plants and animals, including some of the earliest known angiosperms, or flowering plants.
