Lost Youth Photograph by Gideon Mendel
Fifteen-year-old Nomfumaneko Yako shares a room with some of her family's livestock. Frail from her fight with HIV, Nomfumaneko started ARV therapy but died a few weeks after beginning her treatment. "We had hoped that she was going to live long, since she was given the new pills," says her aunt. "She was a beautiful child."
